How to Convert a YouTube Playlist to MP3 (Pick the Tracks You Want)

By Video to MP3 Converter team · Updated 2026-11-01 · 4 min read

Short answer

Open the playlist page (or any video inside it) and click the Video to MP3 Converter icon. The side panel lists every track; untick the ones you don't want, pick a format and press "Convert playlist". Tracks convert one by one and save as each finishes; failed tracks can be retried individually.

An album for a road trip, a course you want to replay offline, the twelve songs from a friend's wedding playlist: converting them one at a time is tedious, and most playlist converters hand you a single ZIP of badly named files — or stop halfway with no way to resume.

Here the side panel lists the tracks, you choose which ones, and each file lands in Downloads as soon as it is ready, tagged and named.

What you need

  • Chrome or Edge on a computer
  • The Video to MP3 Converter extension
  • A public or unlisted YouTube playlist (private playlists can't be read)

Steps

  1. 1

    Open the playlist

Go to the playlist page (youtube.com/playlist?list=…) and click the Video to MP3 Converter icon. The panel reads the list — Reading the playlist… — and shows every track with its length.

Already watching a video that belongs to a playlist? The panel shows that video first, with Convert the whole playlist and the track count underneath. One click switches to the list.

  2. 2

    Untick what you don't want

Every track starts ticked. Untick intros, skits, duplicates or anything you already have; Select all and Select none are at the top. The header keeps count — for example 9 of 12 picked.

  3. 3

Choose one format for all of them

Keep Audio and press Change to pick MP3, M4A or WAV. The same choice applies to every track, and every file is named "Artist - Song". MP3 and M4A files get title, artist and cover art written in; WAV gets the title.

  4. 4

    Convert the list

The button at the bottom reads, for example, Convert 9 to MP3 · 320. Press it. Tracks convert one after another and each one is saved to your Downloads folder as soon as it finishes, so you can start listening before the list is done.

Progress shows as Converting 4 of 9… with an estimate of the minutes left. You can close the panel; the list keeps going and a notification tells you when it is finished.

  5. 5

    Retry or stop

If a track fails — a removed or region-locked video, for example — it is marked with a cross and a Retry button. Retry just that one; the rest are untouched.

Changed your mind halfway? Press Stop. Tracks already saved stay saved, and nothing after that point starts.

Daily limit and long playlists

Each person can run up to 50 conversions a day, and each track counts as one. If you pick more tracks than you have left today, the panel tells you before you start — About 20 more can be converted today; the rest will stop — so you can untick some or continue tomorrow.

Each track can be up to 2 hours long, which covers full lectures and DJ sets.

Stopping and resuming

If the browser closes in the middle of a list, the panel remembers where it was. Next time you open it, it shows how many were saved and offers Continue the other 5 — it doesn't restart on its own, so nothing surprises you on the next launch.

Same settings for every track

One playlist, one format. If you want some songs as MP3 and one as WAV for editing, convert the list as MP3 and then open that one video and convert it again as WAV — it takes two clicks. For a single video, see one video at a time.

Questions

Can I download a whole YouTube playlist as MP3 at once?

Yes. Open the playlist, click the extension icon and press the Convert button at the bottom. Tracks are converted one after another and each is saved to Downloads as it finishes.

Do the files come in a ZIP?

No. Each track is saved as its own MP3, M4A or WAV file, already named and tagged, so you can start listening while the rest convert.

Does it work with private playlists?

No. The playlist must be public or unlisted. Private playlists can only be seen by their owner, so they can't be read.
